What happened...

We've just come to the end of our social action weekend, which went much better than any of us expected! This was the first time we'd done any social action and one of the few occasions where we have been able to work with other churches in the area. 30 young people and several adults were involved.

We started off the weekend with a free car wash, which was well attended and the sun came out which definitely helped! We then went onto do a free barbeque and family fun afternoon at a local church, quite a few people turned up and it was a good chance to practice our face painting and balloon modelling for the rest of the weekend.

On Sunday the young people led the service at our church, they all did very well and although there were a few technical difficulties everyone seemed really impressed.

We started Monday morning by painting a local community building, it was hard work (we didnt realise quite how big/ much it needed decorating before we started!) but we were really proud of the results. Some people even found time to try and make some videos for 'You've been framed' to raise some money to go to Durban next year and most people managed to get plenty of paint on their new 'Hope Revolution' t shirts.

Eventually the sun came out and we spent the afternoon face painting/ balloon modelling/ hairbraiding/ playing games with children in the park. This was really popular and we had lots of good feedback from the parents and children. We the finished off the weekend by having a meal together, sharing stories and watching the video from the weekend.

Although we had a relatively small group I think everyone did really hard and it is definitely a postive step in terms of working with other churches and putting faith into action. Mostly we had very good feedback from the public, although lots assumed that if things were free there must a catch. We all learnt a lot and are already looking at ways to improve the weekend for next year...
