Stories from what happened in May 08!
The Noise day went very well, although we didn't get as many people helping as we had hoped as a number of people backed out at the last minute. We had 13 help altogether, though several could only do part of the day.
It was great to work with the Park Ranger, and we achieved what he had asked if we could do, clearing the rubbish along the church fields hedge next to the A59, and also some clearing of rubbish in the brook. The weather was amazing, considering the forecast was for rain, we had dry warm and sunny conditions, just a little bit too windy for the gazebo though - it blew over hitting Sue on the back as she was doing face painting!! We also managed to play some basketball during the day
Stories from what happened in May 07...
Actions speak louder:
On the 5th May 2007 we went to Coronation Park around midday and started the grand litter pick. We all looked amazing in our matching t-shirts. The Face Painting was an unexpected hit, with probably over 50 people of all ages taking part! Bracelet Making was excellent, strangely particularly popular with the local teenage lads! A little basketball with a group of teenagers followed. Throughout the day there were questions about who we were, and a few raised eyebrows. To those who seemed interested we gave information cards about our service times for children, young people, and adults.
Stories from what happened in July...
Love is a verb:
28th July. Today went excellently. The plan was to repeat our previous wide range litter pick but as it is the summer holidays we had fewer volunteers around we adapted the litter pick to just concentrate on McDonalds car park as we would be highly visible and our work would be appreciated. After lunch we set up the stall in the park as we did last time - but with a few new additions: juggling and a unicycle! These really made us noticeable and attracted loads of families. This time we had more detailed leaflets explaining exactly who we were and why we were doing it. We had some new volunteers who enjoyed themselves and were very enthusiastic.

The next set of projects...
This Saturday (3rd May 2008) we going to be working with the Urban Park Ranger clearing up litter from around Coronation Park, as well as going into the town centre if we have enough volunteers to do litter picking. We will be doing face painting, and hopefully some basketball. We start at 11am at the Old School before walking into town.
Prayer requests
That ideas will continue to flow, and that we will change the perception of 'the big church on the hill' and also for organisation and volunteers please!
