What happened?

Well, the weekend is over and how we now appreciate our warm houses, comfortable beds and variety of food!

The bibles studies and challenges we took part in were brilliant.  Some really challenging issues were discussed and prayed about, and a lot of fun was had too with water carrying, scrap soccer and the demolition challenge resulting in us having to rebuild our home.

Our local radio station 'Radio Scilly' covered the event very well, and many passers by stopped to chat with us, and donate money.

Our morning church service saw slum dwellers, complete with their last meal of lentils and rice take part and talk about their experiences.

Here are some of their comments:
"This weekend I have learnt to be grateful for what I have compared to what people have to live with.  I found it hard to survive on rice and lentils and just 2 meals a day and can't wait to eat normal food and sleep in my bed."
Shannon

"We will not take our lives for granted."
Catherine

"This week I have learnt a lot about how many live.  We only stayed in the slum for 2 nights and this was bad but I could never do it every night.  I now realise how lucky we are and I now appreciate things more.  I would recommend doing this to someone else as I have enjoyed the experience."
Ashlee

"It must be very hard to get food. They only have a small amount of space and so it is very cramped."
Whitney

"The challenges have been good and have shown me what a tough life some people have. It really makes me think how lucky we are to have a warm bed, also a roof over our head along with fresh water etc."
Katy

"At Slum Survivor I was really annoyed when the police came and tore down our slum and I feel sorry for the people around the world who live in a slum.  I can't understand how they can live on this little food."
Mikey

"This weekend has been amazing, a real eye opener. Before this I really didn't understand. To be honest I didn't really care, but now I understand it so now I can go and tell everyone what it feels like. I have so enjoyed it and I hope the memories will stay."
Tara

Thanks Soul Survivor for giving us the pack and inspiring us to do it.
