What happened?

We had a really great weekend dispite the weather, which was grey and miserable all weekend.  We largely followed the programme from the pack, with the addition of a few games and running laps of the church to keep warm.

We used the church for two sides of the slums, along with a large number of pallets, tarps sheets of card and about a zillion metres of gaffer tape.  The first night went ok, with a few emergency repairs and adjustments as the wind got up, but we slept pretty well from about 4am.

Saturday was cold and wet, and Hurricane Dan, which destroyed the slums, caused quite a serious drop in morale, but we all perked up again after the water game and an hour of play fighting in our sleeping bags at the front of church to warm up (such a traditional slum activity, I know).

Saturday night was wild; we ended up evacuating into the church just before the slums fell on our heads!

The Bible studies worked well and kept us focussed, the group especially appreciated the real life stories.  It was great to see how everyone kept remembering why we were doing it, even at four in the morning we were thinking of people who don't have a choice about living that way.  We plan on doing it again when the weather changes next year!
