What happened?

We arranged a Slum Survivor night at All Saints' Church in Poole for a group of ten young people.

They arrived at 9.30 on Saturday morning and after a briefing spent until 12-00 building three shelters. After some grumbles about soaking the lentils, and a look at the beattitudes work continued on the shelters. A football challenge followed - some scrap polystyrene made the best ball - though it didn't last long. Finally we could eat our one meal of lentils and rice. We next played the "burger game" a reflection on the inbalance in our world, and then as it was dark and starting to rain we got a fire going.

The final game of the night was a paper bag making challenge - 3 bags for a marshmallow. We eventually went to our shelters just after 10:00pm and settled down for a leaky night! By morning it had stopped raining but everything was very wet, so after a breakfast of rice and lentils we demolished our shelters before going into Church to share what we had experienced.

Best bits:
Shelter building, sleeping out, fire

Worst Bit:
Food and the lack of it!

Comment:
"Can we do this again next year?"
