Although Slum Survivor is designed to be undertaken as a group we don’t particularly want to exclude anyone who wants to be involved.

The free Slum Survivor pack (get yours here: GO>>) we've produced has examples of how to make a ‘light’ version of Slum Survivor suitable for a a small group that doesn’t have the resources or time to plan a full on weekend of activities.

However, if you are totally on your own and no-one else fancies it, why not try the Slum Survivor on your own challenge? Our basic suggestion here is that you get sponsored for living for a weekend, five days, a whole week or however long you want to live on just a pound a day. 3 billion people live on just $2 a day, which roughly equates to one English pound.

Doing Slum Survivor on your own therefore asks you  to limit yourself to spending just a pound a day on food, drink, going out and any other luxuries (obviously you’ll be living in your home so don’t include the cost of rent, council tax and bills… otherwise you’d be evicted!). You may also want to exclude some activities like watching TV, surfing online and listening to music as part of your challenge.

Over the day(s) that you undertake the Slum Survivor challenge on your own spend time going through some of the bible studies, stories and prayer points in section 3 of this booklet. Commit your time to God and treat the challenge as a fast, where any mealtimes you miss (because you have no money left for food) you spend praying and seeking God.

Ask people to sponsor you before you undergo the challenge and outline the rules you’re placing on yourself to them before hand… And of course, let us know what you’re doing (sign up your type of Slum Survivor event here: GO>>)
