Post event info...

Slum Survivor on a very cold and wet weekend was hard work but enjoyable.

We encountered God in many different ways and met some lovely people with difficult stories to tell.We felt blessed to meet and hear them.
It was also a pleasure and a privilege for me to work with the teenagers and see them in a different light, out of school. We were joined by the younger Sunday school children and everyone did really well in the service on Sunday morning.

We have raised approximately £500 through sponsorship, donations, refreshments and the car wash which we are really pleased about.

No Slumber

There are millions of children around the world who live in homes without adults. Spend a whole night learning more about the choices these children face each day.

What people said...

Paul: “The bad people in this world are working as hard as they can to make this world worse, how can I take a day off” Bob Marley.

Tim: "It was a good experience. It shows how much we actually have in England. Makes you appreciate it and realise the responsibility that comes with it".

Nicola: "Sum up the event... Funny-pretty much the whole thing with the guys! Sad, Adam’s talk about street children really made me think. Good-Building, activities, talks, hanging out. Bad-The weather, Andy shouting at people in the street, asking for money, the food.

The guy who came into the church with a wooden elephant actually talked to my Mum, but I got the vibe he was lonely. (I was right unfortunately) but everything about the day made me think... I talked about Adam’s story at the Sunday service. The heart wrenching stories made me feel very bad for the street children. I also wanted to continue to work with Slum Survivor and see what it is doing for people living in slums.

Khara: “I really enjoyed it. I understand how hard it is for people with less money. I would recommend it and just for one day think of the people who are less fortunate than us”.

Naomi: “I really enjoyed Slum Survivor because it’s quite good fun, especially being around your friends and having some laughs. We also held a coffee morning and spoke to people around our event and they were inspired.

I wrote a letter, as part of a challenge set, telling the neighbours of the church, shops and homes in the area about what we were doing and we instantly had a women from one of the shops come in and give us some money. Me and one of my friends actually delivered them, just after I had got to church on Saturday morning.

Unfortunately no one became a Christian but it is a worthwhile event where we cracked a few jokes and enjoyed ourselves. Before I did this I thought, okay I’ll do it but it’ll probably be boring but I would really like to thank everyone who has worked hard preparing this for us so that we can help those who need our help”
