So far the chaps have managed to raise over £550 for Soul Action... which is awesome!
These are some of the comments from chaps involved:
"Slum Survivor was incredible..when we were told how far we had to walk just to get water it opened my eyes quite a bit as many people all over the world have to do a much longer journey than we did.
The food as well...we had a restricted diet.and it was alright at first but when it came round to the second time I really lost my appetite and it made me think of all those people who have to eat that or similar foods to that...and they're just happy that they've got something to eat.. it made me realise how fussy I am with food. I don't think I'd ever been so happy to see a banana in my entire life, so yeah, Slum Survivor really hit me.it was a laugh.. but the real message behind it I really took in...and I Iiked it so much that I would do it again" Emma G
'Doing Slum Survivor was great fun! However it did have its struggles. When we started doing all the activities they were fun and a great laugh, we were then told that we had to start building our shelter which started straight away. This quickly became hard work, because we would do something in building our shelter, but we then had to stand back and make sure it would stand on its own and that it would keep us dry.
After me, Hannah and Emma G had finished building the shelter, we had to go to 'school' which was fine until we got back, and found out that our shelter had been destroyed, we became slightly annoyed very quickly and all this happened just as we had to start cooking. So two of us started building whilst the other cooked.
As time went on we realised we didn't have much water left, so all 3 of us girls went walking for more water, that wasn't to bad until it came to being the 3rd time of walking round.
However I think one of the hardest parts of doing slum survivor came to me when we went to have our second meal of rice and lentils. The meal was very plain and boring and by the time it came to eating it twice it wasn't very nice. As I reflected on that, I know how pathetic it sounds because we new we were going to get a second meal and yes it was very boring but a least we knew we would eat. People in India eat that type of thing every single meal time, however the difference is that they don't know when their next meal will be, and yet we didn't like the second boring meal we new we would get.
It was a great experience to do slum survivor and I would recommend it to anyone. It was an eye opener on what we take for granted, and most of the time it is something so simple like food.' Emma J
