In aid of 'Slum Survivor' 11 youngsters, & one adult, spent Saturday night in their homemade cardboard slums.
2 other kids, & 3 adults, joined them for the work during the weekend although not for the luxurious sleeping arrangements. They'd all spent 8 solid hours washing cars, cleaning shoes + selling cakes during Saturday. Rewarded with a bowl of yummy rice & lentils, after the 8 hours had finished, their hard surfaced bedding was sort of comforting, in a strange way.
On Sunday morning, despite the lack of sleep on the cold unwelcoming floor, they embarked on a sponsored walk & bike ride. The sleepy bunch of walkers treked along the Nene Way, slightly envious of anyone they saw eating sweets, ice cream or drinking coffee at the local cafe. The youthful bikers just hammered along the off-road track, only realising later that their energy levels were being zapped & not replaced by the sweet taste of milk chocolate. 5 Miles for the walkers & between 12 + 18 miles for the other bikers
Then back to church to prepare for the Sunday Service, dedicated obviously, to the reason for their efforts 'Slum Survivor'. 3 of the team are in the worship group, one a drummer with the other 2 being singers.
Those that took part in the Slum Survivor event have rasied over £300 so far, with more having been pledged.
