Project Name:
Joybells

Project Location:
Joybells School and Orphanage is based near Dehradun in the Northern Indian state of Uttaranchal.
Who runs the project?
The project gets its name from Joy Singh who was moved by the plight of orphaned and destitute Ladakhi children who live in a desperately poor rural location.
What is the need?
Although not all children are orphaned, because or the harsh poverty and conditions, children and families face very few options. Education is not often available, and many familes face tough choices over whether they can afford to educate children.
What does the project do?
Joybells is a school and orphange that is home to over 50 children (with plans to accommodate around 400). Joybells also offers primary education for children, but also much more than this. Friendships and relationships with children are paramount and lives are being changed as much through education as they are through the love, care and compassion children receive.
What difference is being made?
Children who would have no chance of education are getting a chance to learn, offering them opportunities for employment in the future and a route out of the extreme poverty that is all around them. The school is also home to many orphaned children who would have no family support network to look after and care for them were it not for Joybells.
