Mayville Secondary School, in Mayville Township, 2.5 miles out of Durban City Centre.

Who runs the project?
The Father’s Heart Foundation is a registered charity set up by a Vineyard Church in Durban. It is run by volunteers from the Church.

What is the need?
The project seeks to help orphaned and vulnerable children who live in the Township of Mayville. A massive proportion of children lose their fathers and mothers to HIV AIDS and therefore have no one to provide them with money for food, education, housing or anything else for that matter. For this reason children either cannot afford to go to school or leave school before finishing their education to find work. Many, many children are also tragically abused.

What does the project do?
With support from Soul Action the Father’s Heart Foundation has been able to regularly provide around 200 orphaned and vulnerable school children with weekly food parcels as well as paying for school fees, medical fees, stationary, toiletries and offering pastoral support when needed.

What difference is being made?
Children who live alone or with an ill relative in the desperately poor conditions of Mayville Township are having the opportunity to stay in school and gain an education rather than look for work. Young people are being helped to carve their own route out of poverty.
