WANT TO PRAY FOR FREEDOM?...

Posted: 25/01/12

Check this out! Our friends at Beyond the Streets have started an exciting initiative to get people all over the place praying for the injustice of human trafficking in the run up to the 2012 Olympics.

As London prepares for the games, the sex industry will be building up a supply of women readily available to service the needs of men before, during and after the Olympics.

Although it’s impossible to say exact numbers, many people will be exploited sexually (and for labour and domestic purposes too) as a direct result of this event.

Beyond the Streets have released a resource called “Gathering Voices: A Journey of Prayer”. It includes seven daily responses focusing on issues around sexual exploitation. Also check out the"Orginial Prayers" section, which was written by women who have exited prostitution.

We want God to expand our hearts and increase our vision to see a country where people are free from sexual exploitation!

CAN DESIGN END SLAVERY?...

Posted: 18/01/12

Our mates at Not For Sale in the US are launching a pretty exciting new competition. They are looking for a bunch of graphic designers and creatives to take part in a 24 challenge called Hack Forth and Multiply. It's all about helping to visually communicate the work of a specific project that is working to end modern day slavery.

The brief will require designers to name a Not For Sale project, create its identity and then apply that identity to specific media, all in the course of 24 hours. And from the comfort of wherever it is in the world they like to work best.

Designers have until 10am Feb 1st to register. Once registered, the brief will be emailed to them at 12 noon Feb 1st (the same day). Submission details will be sent along with the brief. Once ideas have been submitted, they will then be judged and the winners announced within 48 hours of the deadline.

The competition has an entry fee, but winners can receive iPads, a cash prize and an internship with a well known design agency. Interested? Download the pdf below or check out the links for more....

FREEDOM BANDS SOLD OUT...

Posted: 24/11/11

Our latest batch of Freedom Bands are now totally sold out... that means we've amazingly managed to sell over 7,500 of them since the summer, which is an incredible effort - so thanks for buying one!

Unfortunately we had a glitch with our shop which means that some online orders couldn't be fulfilled, if you haven't received your Freedom Band yet, then that might be why (we've emailed and refunded everyone affected that we know of). If you haven't heard from us then drop us a line at info@soulaction.org.

The bands have been an amazing way to not only practically help our friends over at the Cambodia Hope Organisation that do some amazing work with poor communities on the Thai/Cambodia border near Poipet (each band was made by a person involved in the project who learnt new skills and received some vocational training), but they are also a fantastic reminder to pray for those millions of people around the world whose freedom is being limited by poverty.

We're looking into a few new ways we can continue to support CHO and similar projects around the world, and we'll definitely keep you posted on the new ideas! But in the meantime, thanks so much for your support!

ALL NEW SLUM SURVIVOR STUFF...

Posted: 27/10/11

Ever heard of Slum Survivor? If not, then you're in for a treat! Slum Survivor is the challenge to get together with your mates or youth group and raise money for and awareness of poverty by spending a few days the way a billion people spend their lifetimes.

It's a weekend fundraising event where you'll face challenges, from building a shelter to live in, to cooking a limited range of food, all of which aims to help you connect with God and his heart for our world. We've just uploaded a whole bunch of new resources to help facilitate a Slum Survivor Weekend based around issues of trafficking and slavery. The guide features Bible Studies, reflections, prayer times and some pretty crazy challenges that highlight what life is like when your freedom is stolen.

Well over 350 churches and groups have run a Slum Survivor event helping to raise a fantastic amount of money for the projects we support. Have a look at the new guides to get involved and plan your own event!

LIV VILLAGE UPDATE

Posted: 13/09/11

A few years ago Mike P from Soul Survivor met a group of street children in Durban. As Mike regularly travels about the place, the next time he was in Durban, he looked up the same group of lads and over the years a friendship developed.

These lads had tough lives. Some were involved in crime, some from broken families and all were from extremely poor backgrounds. It made sense to connect them to some of the people we knew in the area that were doing some fantastic community work, and so some of the lads got involved in various projects we were supporting.

At last year's Soul Survivor (in 2010) we took up an offering, and some of the money raised back then has gone to support work to provide homes for street children like the guys we formed friendships with. LIV Village, run by Titch and Joan Smith aims to provide family homes to some of the many poor, impoverished and orphaned children of South Africa, and we're excited to be supporting them.

Check out the project pages here for some pictures of how money raised is building some of the first homes at the village!
