Are you 18 – 25? Tearfund is offering you a chance to spend 10 weeks volunteering in Africa or South America with the Department for International Development (DFID) funded International Citizen Service (ICS). This is an amazing opportunity to experience another culture, challenge yourself and develop your potential while working on genuine development projects that will have a lasting impact.

And you won’t be alone – you’ll be part of a group from the UK and once you arrive in country, you’ll be teaming up with other ICS volunteers from the country you’re based in. This is a great opportunity to learn from each other and share ideas to create a lasting impact.

You can choose from 3 different countries

When you return home to the UK, we will support you to carry out a project to share what you’ve learnt and to encourage others to take action against poverty.

Are you over 23 (there’s no age limit!)? We’re looking for individuals who would love the challenge of leading an ICS team. And if you’d like to be a long-term leader, there’s an option to stay for up to six months.

I had an amazing time working with and learning from the volunteers in country and building relationships with the partners to contribute to the wonderful work they do. It was a privilege to be a part of such a great project that taught me so much about loving and serving those around me.” – Beth Loaker

  1. Hello,
My name is Rachel and I’m 22 studying french and spanish at University of Liverpool. I am about to start my second year but 3rd year is placement (sept 2015-16) where we must travel and spend time on projects or work within french and spanish speaking countries. I am looking into perhaps doing an ICS in Bolivia during spring 2016 and wondered if there is much info available for that trip as it is far in advance but our university asks us to plan during these next few months if we can. I speak various languages (english, french, spanish and some chinese) and have recently returned from a year on mission in China where I studied mandarin at university out there, taught english in various educational settings and got involved in the underground church loving the Chinese and shining light. It was very exciting and it’s clear that God’s gifted me with communication skills, education and working with others, especially as I find it easy to interact with almost anybody from any background or age. I have a heart for mission and reaching the nations, not just outside of U.k but within too as we have many foreigners here and people who need Jesus. I am highly involved in my student church, C.U and lead an international cafe on our uni campus to befriend internationals and begin alpha with those who seek Jesus. Right now I am using my free time to investigate trips I could do during my year abroad (of which only a few months is required in a spanish speaking country) and I feel that ICS Bolivia would suit me well so if possible could you see if there is any additional info to on the tearfund website that I could read or research. Thank you

Hi, I am 21 years old and recently graduated with a first class BSc in Psychology from the University of Liverpool.
Your projects sound incredible and I would be really keen to get involved and make a long lasting positive impact to peoples’ lives. I would love to volunteer on a tear fund ICS project anywhere in South America between September 2015- December 2015. Do you have any projects of this kind available? If so please could I have some more information?
    Best wishes,

I have passed your details on to the team who sort all of the ICS trips and they will be in touch soon! Sorry for the late reply – we’ve been away at the Soul Survivor summer conferences!

      Thanks for getting in touch,
