Answers to these questions are pretty subjective. 9. Who can answer my questions?

1) Can I go to Durban?
In short, yes. We’re arranging some medium-term placements for for 2008 throughout the year. We're focussing on recruiting volunteers for placements in beginning in September 08 (see more here: GO>>). The placements are coordinated by Tearfund’s Transform team and Soul Action Durban and will involve serving various Soul Action Projects in Durban for 3 months.

2) Can I visit Durban projects on my own?
Although we’d love to be able to send everyone out to Durban who wanted to go, at present the only confirmed placements we are organising are on a medium term basis from early 2008.

Due to safety, insurances, travel and accommodation issues we’re suggesting that anyone interested in going out to Durban does so through Soul Action. We want to effectively serve and help the projects out in South Africa and realise that sending individuals on an ad hoc basis may stretch the resources of some of the projects more than it benefits them. Therefore we’re taking steps to carefully plan the longer-term placements (which are likely to involve some application process and age limitation) to ensure they are appropriate and do encourage and help both those embarking on the placements and the projects themselves.

6) What's the difference between SOULINTHECITY DURBAN and Transform Durban
In short, SOULINTHECITY DURBAN is an initiative that is seeking to get young people from all over the world in Durban for a short period of time to serve Durban churches. The main focus of SOULINTHECITY is the summer of 2009 where teams are preparing to serve the cirty for around 2 weeks. Teams are currently being organised for the summer of 2008 too.

Transform Durban is more specifically the Soul Action placements within Durban. These teams, for 2008, will last considerably longer than the SOULINTHECITY teams, with options to serve specific projects and churches from 3 months up to 1 year.

7) I’m too young to go to Durban, what can I do NOW?
There’s loads of ways to become involved with Soul Action and just because you have to be over 18 to go on the medium term Durban trips doesn’t mean you miss out.

Although we have an international focus on Durban, South Africa, we’re also really keen to get people passionate about serving their own towns and getting involved in national campaigns. By getting your youth group or church to run a local Noise project, or signing up to Slum Survivor or doing a regular AOK mission you’ll be actively seeking God’s kingdom and promoting the vision behind Soul Action: connecting our faith with our actions.

Because we want to connect our personal faith with our lives (discipleship!) we’ve got loads of resources, articles and thought provoking discussions going on. Why not challenge yourself by reading some of them and then get praying and acting on what you feel God saying as a result!

8) Can I suggest a project out in Durban to become a Soul Action Project?
Obviously we don’t know everyone in Durban and so we’d love to hear about great projects, people and churches in that region of South Africa that we could support and work alongside – especially in regards to SOULINTHECITY 2009. In order to make sure that we’re promoting and supporting suitable projects we’d need to gather certain information on the projects, charities or organisations involved.
