When is/was your Noise/social action event?
29th-31st May 2010
How many people got/are getting involved?
There were around 30 of us!
What is the plan for your events?
The Noise was run by a number of churches in Tonbridge. The area we worked with was South Tonbridge!
We were able to help a number of residents in South Tonbridge who were unable to maintain their gardens due to sickness or disability. Through the hard work and generous contribution of time from volunteers, we brought a number of gardens to a maintainable state which now means that the housing association will keep grass cut and plants trimmed back.
We also made our way through various alleyways and housing estates clearing up litter. We found enough dumped stuff to re-launch the generation game – a TV, a Hoover, 6 tyres, a golf club and a cuddly toy (which escaped and ran back into the trees as it may have actually been a squirrel!).
The residents were so grateful for our help over the weekend that we’re now looking into how we can keep offering support to people in similar situations, as there are many in our Parish alone.
Any prayer requests?
Please be praying for the residents that we met- they were touched by our hard work and the time we took to chat with them and simply serve them. Pray that as they go about they day to day lives, they'd see the churches in our town and be encouraged to explore faith and be further supported and encouraged by the church community.

When is/was your Noise/social action event?
26th-28th August 2010
How many people got/are getting involved?
We're hoping for over 100 volunteers!
What is the plan for your events?
We try to look after Markyate, and share the good we've been given: time, skills, resources and friendship. Over the past few years, we've done this by choosing 3 days each summer and bringing dozens of volunteers together to tackle some of Markyate's needs.
Noise projects have included anything from gardening and DIY for people who might need a hand, right through to redecorating Markyate Primary School. Tonnes-literally!-of rubbish, rubble, and recyclables have been hauled away and dozens of new coats of paint have been applied as teams of volunteers have got stuck in. The idea is to help in any way, and to give people the opportunity to make a difference to their village.
How long have you been running these events?
The Noise in Markyate has been running since 2001. It started with a handful of friends and last year we saw 130 volunteers take part and up to 40 projects were completed in 3 days.
Any prayer requests?
That we continue to see God's hand in both the practical and spiritual side of the Noise. Protection and guidance during the Noise and in the run-up.

What is the plan for your events?
We have continued to work alongside other local churches and in partnership with Barnet Council and the Metropolitan Police. We decided to continue this effort and the "Noise" event was born. Since then, each May Bank Holiday weekend, the social action work continues with local volunteers getting involved, we clean local estates, remove graffiti from public signs, litter pick, paint, plant shrubs and flowers in communal areas, clear up venerable resident's gardens and generally make the area look a lot nicer.
We have strong relationships with the Council, the Police and with residents in the area. This has enabled us to work together to build a better community to live in. We provide social action weekends and free fun-days for the local residents & members of the public to enjoy. We have had fantastic support from Barnet Homes, Burnt Oak Safer Neighbourhood Team and other local organisations and churches. our local supermarkets, has also generously provided packed lunches for the volunteers in past years.
In previous years...
Back in 2004, for two weeks we hosted a team of volunteers who came from all over the UK to clean up large areas of Burnt Oak. The purpose of the event is to improve the local environment, build community cohesion, help vulnerable residents, and break down barriers between older and younger residents.
This event builds the residents confidence in their Council, their local Police, local Supermarkets and local churches. The feedback review Barnet Homes conducted on the North Road Estate last year showed more than 83% of the residents asked thought that the event made a huge difference. The Event will target adult volunteers and young people from the local area. The event will consist of two days clearing up and a fun day on the Bank Holiday Monday.
Any prayer requests?
That God would help us with the more spiritual, soul winning areas. That we would be fruitful.
